Premier Li sure of accomplishing major 2016 development goals

Chinese premier Li Keqiang said on Nov. 14 that the nation is sure to accomplish its major 2016 development goals under the firm leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core.

Li made the remarks at a conference on improving economic development and people's quality of life.

He urged the authorities to maintain a stable job market, firmly make development the top priority and promote continued economic growth through reform, opening up and innovation.

The premier noted that uncertainties in the international environment and different levels of development among regions and industries in the country pose a challenge for the government.

He asked for continued efforts to pursue supply-side structural reform while appropriately expanding aggregate demand.

The premier said the authorities should strengthen new economic momentum and accelerate development of new technology, new industries, new entities and new modes as well as the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

He stressed the fundamental objective of development is to improve people's livelihood, adding that efforts to improve people's livelihood will also add to growth momentum.

Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli also attended the conference. Experts from universities, research institutions, hospitals, enterprises and local housing authorities attended the conference.
