20th Chinese Peacekeeping Force to Congo (K) Sets Out

The first 100-member echelon of the 20th Chinese peacekeeping force set off for the one-year peacekeeping mission in Congo (K) from the Hedong Airport in Yinchuan, west China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on September 19.

According to a responsible person of the peacekeeping affairs office of the army under the PLA Western Theater Command, the 20th Chinese peacekeeping force to Congo (K) consists of two detachments, namely engineer and medical detachments.

Among the 218 members of the 20th Chinese peacekeeping force to Congo(K), 175 peacekeeping engineers are from an engineer regiment under the PLA 21st Group Army, and 43 peacekeeping medical members are from the Lanzhou General Hospital of the PLA.

The two detachments will be responsible for tasks including construction and repair of roads and bridges, rescue and treatment of the wounded, and diseases and epidemic prevention in Congo (K).

The second 118-member echelon of the 20th Chinese peacekeeping force to Congo(K) is scheduled to leave China on September 27.

Yuan Yangjun, commanding officer of the engineer detachment of the 20th Chinese peacekeeping force, introduced that they have communicated in advance with the 19th Chinese peacekeeping force to Congo (K), and made fully preparation for the upcoming peacekeeping missions.

For example, they have clearly understood the actual situations in the mission areas, and carried out training on over 30 tactical subjects including survival and defense, medical rescue and mine clearance and so forth.
