Cui Yuying, vice head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and vice minister of the State Council Information Office (SCIO) asserted the importance of green development on June 16 in Beijing at the 7th "Low-Carbon Development, Green Livelihood" Philanthropic Photography Exhibition Opening.
She said that green development matters to the country as a whole as well as each individual living in society.
"The construction of China's ecological civilization is an important part of the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Promoting green, low-carbon development and strengthening the ecological civilization matters to the people's livelihood and the nation's future," she said in her speech delivered at the exhibition opening.
At the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, China's top authorities put forward the five major development ideas to stress "innovative, coordinative, green, open and inclusive" development. The country's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) includes "promoting green development" into the national strategy.
The central authorities' requirements for low-carbon and green development cater to the people's expectation for better ecological and environmental conditions, and greatly contribute to a harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature.
Cui said that the Chinese people now personally feel that the environment is improving, although at a moderate pace. "The sky is bluer, the water is clearer and the hills are greener," she said, also mentioning that "China's effort to improve the environment also amount to a huge contribution to the global governance of climate and ecology, which has already won China applause in the international community."
Spreading green ideas and promoting a low-carbon lifestyle has been a mission for practitioners of journalism, she acknowledged, noting that the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the SCIO shall continue to support such efforts to promote the ecological civilization nationwide.
