The Fourth Economic and Financial Forum of BRICS Countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) was held in Beijing on Jan. 12. The forum was jointly sponsored by the Economic Daily and the China Economic Net. Guo Weimin, vice minister of the State Council Information Office (SCIO), delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum.
Guo pointed out in his speech that, China's "Belt and Road Initiative" agrees with the BRICS countries' development strategies in many ways. Despite of an overall economic slowdown in the BRICs countries, the organization is still an important engine in leading the world’s economic growth with great potential, he said.
Guo stressed that the BRICs countries are an important driving force of the world economy and an active builder of the international system, and that the BRICS countries' cooperation mechanism has shown strong signs of innovation and vitality since it was launched. He also said that the BRICS countries have many advantages in terms of resources, markets, labor force and technology, so there is a strong sense of economic complementarity that exists between all sides.
"We are willing to join hands with the BRICS countries to build the BRICS partnership into a new model of international relations," Guo said, adding that the media should exist as a link between China and the BRICS countries to enhance mutual understanding and friendship, and promote the economic exchange and development of the BRICS countries.
Guo also put forward three proposals for the BRIC countries to strengthen the cooperation in the media field, namely, telling the BRICS countries' stories well and spreading their voices to the whole world, building a bridge to enhance mutual understanding and friendly relations among the BRICS countries and expanding the multi-level, diversified cooperation between the BRIC countries by making full use of various types of exchange and cooperation mechanisms.
Over the past four years, the economic and financial forum of BRICS countries has formed a wide-ranging influence in deepening the economic cooperation between the BRIC countries and in exploring the new pattern of reform and development for the BRICS countries.
