The First BRICS Media Summit was held in Beijing on Dec. 1.

The First BRICS Media Summit was held in Beijing on Dec. 1, centered on the theme of "Innovation, Development, Cooperation and Mutual Trust." Liu Qibao, member of the Political Bureau and Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and head of its Publicity Department attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address.

The summit was initiated by the Xinhua News Agency, and launched in cooperation with the Brazil Communication Company (Empresa Brasil de Comunicação, or the EBC), Russia's RT News Agency, India's Hindu, and the Independent Media of South Africa. Xinhua hosted the first summit.

Cai Mingzhao, the president of Xinhua, presided over the opening ceremony of the summit attended by the heads of 25 media organizations from the BRICS members.

The summit intends to boost media cooperation among the five members of the BRICS. It is a non-governmental and non-profit, high-end platform for media communications and exchange, with the hope of encouraging a more positive synergy for the development of the BRICS.
